Manhattan Review will help you get started on your own path toward a life of accomplishment and prosperity.
The TOEFL is structured as a four-section exam dedicated to reading, writing, speaking, and listening. Although each of these skills is the focus of one section, the test also emphasizes the ability to combine one or more of these areas. The speaking section, for example, includes exercises that require the test-taker to also use reading and writing skills. The most immediate goal of most TOEFL students, of course, is passing TOEFL scores, but the assessment of linguistic synthesis promotes better long-term communication skills. This is the real reason that the test is required in the first place: to ensure that non-native speakers can successfully complete their coursework and competently negotiate their lives in the academic and non-academic community. TOEFL passing scores vary widely from university to university and from department to department, but all TOEFL students are encouraged to pursue rigorous TOEFL prep in order to acquire functional communication abilities.
